aspeedof20–25mph(30–40km/h)andsqueezethemanualcontrol
levercompletely.

Ifthetrailerwheelslock-up(indicatedbysquealingtires),reducethe
GAINsetting;ifthetrailerwheelsturnfreely,increasetheGAINsetting.
RepeatSteps5and6untiltheGAINsettingisatapointjustbelow
trailerwheellock-up.Iftowingaheaviertrailer,trailerwheellockupmay
notbeattainableevenwiththemaximumGAINsettingof10.
Explanationofinstrumentclustermessages:
TheTBCinteractswiththeinstrumentclustermessagecenter.These
messages,accompaniedbyasinglechime,willbedisplayedwhenthe
TBCdeterminesamalfunctioninthetrailerconnection,TBCsystem,or
inthetrailer.Thesemessagesarelistedbelow:
TRAILERDISCONNECTED(ifequippedwithmessagecenter)or
CHECKTRAILER(ifequippedwithminimessagecenter):This
messageisdisplayedwhenatrailerconnectionwasdeterminedandthen
adisconnection,eitherintentionallyorunintentionally,hasbeensensed
duringagivenignitioncycle.Itisalsodisplayedifatrailerfaultoccurs
causingthetrailertoappeardisconnected.Thismessageisalso
displayedduringmanualactivationwithoutatrailerconnected.
TBCFAULT:Thismessageisdisplayedinresponsetofaultssensedby
theTBC.Intheeventthismessageisseen,pleasetakeyourvehicleto
anauthorizeddealerfordiagnosisandrepair.TheTBCmaystillfunction,
butperformancemaybedegraded.
TRAILERFAULT:TheTBCiscapableofdeterminingcertainfaultsin
thevehiclewiringandtrailerwiring/brakesystem.Thesefaultsdonot
meanthereisanythingwrongwiththeTBC.Thismessageisdisplayed
whenoneofthefollowingfaultshasoccurred:

Shortcircuitontheelectricbrakeoutputwire:IftheTRAILER
FAULTmessageisdisplayedwithnotrailerconnected,theproblemis
withthevehiclewiringfromtheTBCtothe7–pinconnectorinthe
bumper.Ifthemessageisonlydisplayedwithatrailerconnected,the
problemisrelatedtothetrailerwiring;consultyourtrailerdealerfor
assistance.Thiscanbeashorttoground(i.e.,chaffedwire)orashort
tovoltage(i.e.,pulledpinontraileremergencybreak-awaybattery).

Trailerbrakeoverload:Thetrailerbrakesaredrawingtoomuch
current;consultyourtrailerdealerforassistance.
Note:YourTBCcanbediagnosedbyyourauthorizeddealerto
determineexactlywhichtrailerfaulthasoccurred;however,ifthefault
iswiththetrailerthisdiagnosisisnotcoveredunderyourFord
warranty.
