Thissystempreventsthekeyfrombeingremovedunless
theshiftleverisinPARK.Italsopreventsshiftingoutof
PARKunlessthekeyisintheACC,orONpositions,and
thebrakepedalisdepressed.
NOTE: Akey,whichhasnotbeenprogrammed,isalso
considered an invalid key even if it is cut to fit the
ignitionlockcylinderforthatvehicle.

During normal operation, after turning on the ignition
switch, the Vehicle Security Alarm Indicator Light will
turnonforthree(3)secondsforabulbcheck.Ifthelight
remainsonafterthebulbcheck,itindicatesthatthereis
a problem with the electronics. In addition, if the light
begins to flash after the bulb check, it indicates that
someoneusedaninvalidkeytostarttheengine.Eitherof
these conditions will result in the engine being shut off
aftertwo(2)seconds.
SENTRYKEY—IFEQUIPPED
The Sentry Key Immobilizer System prevents unautho-
rized vehicle operation by disabling the engine. The
systemdoesnotneedtobearmedoractivated.Operation
isautomatic,regardlessofwhetherthevehicleislocked
orunlocked.
Thesystemusesignitionkeys,whichhaveanembedded
electronic chip (transponder), to prevent unauthorized
vehicle operation. Therefore, only keys that are pro-
grammedtothevehiclecanbeusedtostartandoperate
thevehicle.Thesystemwillshuttheengineoffintwo(2)
seconds if someone uses an invalid key to start the
engine.
If the Vehicle Security Alarm Indicator Light turns on
during normal vehicle operation (vehicle running for
longerthan10seconds),itindicatesthatthereisafaultin
the electronics. Should this occur, have the vehicle ser-
vicedassoonaspossible.
