Removethedipstickanddetermineifthefluidishot
CAUTION!
orwarm.Hotfluidisapproximately180°F(82°C),which
isthenormaloperatingtemperatureafterthevehiclehas
beendrivenatleast15miles(24km).Thefluidcannotbe
comfortably held between the finger tips. Cold is when
thefluidisbelow80°F(27°C).
Do not overfill. Dirt and water in the transmission
cancauseseriousdamage.Topreventdirtandwater
from entering the transmission after checking or
replenishingfluid,makecertainthatthedipstickcap
isreseatedproperly.
6.
Wipe the dipstick clean and reinsert until seated.
Removedipstickandnotereading.
FluidandFilterChanges
Automatic transmission fluid should be changed on all
transmissionsasfollows:
a. If the fluid is hot, the reading should be in the
crosshatchedareamarked“HOT”(betweentheupper
twoholesinthedipstick).
NormalUsage—Nochangenecessary
b. Ifthefluidiscold,thefluidlevelshouldbebetween
thelowertwoholesintheareamarked“COLD”.
Severe Usage (fluid and filter) — Refer to Maintenance
Schedule“B”
If the fluid level indicates low, add sufficient fluid to
bringtotheproperlevel.
