Oneorbothfrontairbagsmaydeploy,
andthecorrespondingpretensioner(s)
willalsodeployatthesametime.Use
offrontseatbeltswiththe
Foroptimumprotection,thedriverand
frontpassengerseatbeltsareequipped
withpretensionerandloadlimiting
systems.
Inmoderateorseverefrontalornear-
frontalcollisionorroll-overaccidents,the
frontairbagandpretensionersystems
deploysimultaneously.Thefrontseatbelt
retractorsremoveslackquicklyastheair
bagsareexpanding.Theseatbelt
pretensionersystemcannotprovide
adequateprotectioninanaccidentifthe
seatbeltisnotfastenedproperly.Theload
limitingsystemreleasesbeltwebbingina
controlledmannertoreducebeltforceon
theoccupant'schest.
Inaddition,thepretensionersystemfor
thefrontpassengerisdesignedtoonly
deployinaccordancewiththetotalseated
weightonthefrontpassengerseat.For
details,refertothedriverandfront
passengeroccupantclassificationsystem
(page2-58).

dangerous.Liketheairbags,theseat
beltpretensionerswillonlyfunction
once.Aftertheyareexpended,they
willnotfunctionagainandmustbe
replacedimmediately.Iftheseatbelt
pretensionersarenotreplaced,the
riskofinjuryinacollisionwill
increase.AlwayshaveanAuthorized
MazdaDealerinspecttheseatbelt
pretensionersandairbagsafterany
collision.Expendedseatbelt
pretensionersandairbagsmustbe
replacedafteranycollisionwhich
causedthemtodeploy.Additionally,
theloadlimiterwillonlylimitloadson
thechestonceinacollisionandthisis
anotherreasontohavethefrontseat
beltsinspected.

Wearseatbeltsonlyasrecommended
inthisowner'smanual:
Incorrectpositioningofthedriverand
frontpassengerseatbeltsis
devicesonthepretensionersystem:
Modifyingthecomponentsorwiring
ofthepretensionersystem,including
theuseofelectronictestingdevicesis
dangerous.Youcouldaccidentally
activateitormakeitinoperablewhich
wouldpreventitfromactivatinginan
accident.Theoccupantsorrepairers
couldbeseriouslyinjured.
