Thefrontandsidesupplementalrestraintsystems(SRS)includeupto4airbags.Please
verifywhichkindsofairbagsareequippedonyourvehiclebylocatingthe“SRS
AIRBAG”locationindicators.Theseindicatorsarevisibleintheareawheretheairbags
areinstalled.
Theairbagsareinstalledinthefollowinglocations:
Thesteeringwheelhub(driverairbag)

Thepassengerdashboard(passengerairbag)
Theoutboardsidesoftheseatbacks(sideairbags)í
l

Thesesystemsoperateindependentlydependingonthetypeofaccidentencountered;if
youhavesideairbags,thesideairbagsarenotlikelytodeployonbothsidesinthesame
accidentbecauseavehicleisnotoftenhitfrombothsides.Thesideairbagsandthefrontal
airbagsystemwillnotnormallydeployduringthesametypeofaccidentunlessa
combinationoffrontalandsideimpactsoccur.
Theairbagsupplementalrestraintsystemsaredesignedtoprovidesupplementalprotection
incertainsituations,soseatbeltsarealwaysimportantinthefollowingways:
Withoutseatbeltusage,theairbagscannotprovideadequateprotectionduringanaccident.
Seatbeltusageisnecessaryto:
Keeptheoccupantfrombeingthrownintoaninflatingairbag.

Reducethepossibilityofinjuriesduringanaccidentthatisnotdesignedforairbag
l
inflation,suchasroll-overorrearimpact.
Reducethepossibilityofinjuriesinfrontalorsidecollisionsthatarenotsevereenough
l
toactivatetheairbags.
Reducethepossibilityofbeingthrownfromyourvehicle.
l
Reducethepossibilityofinjuriestolowerbodyandlegsduringanaccidentbecausethe
l
airbagsprovidenoprotectiontothesepartsofthebody.
Holdthedriverinapositionwhichallowsbettercontrolofthevehicle.
l
Smallchildrenmustbeprotectedbyachild-restraintsystemasstipulatedbylawinevery
stateandprovince.Incertainstatesandprovinces,largerchildrenmustuseachild-restraint
system(page2-17).
Carefullyconsiderwhichchild-restraintsystemisnecessaryforyourchildandfollowthe
installationdirectionsinthisOwner'sManualaswellasthechild-restraintsystem
manufacturer'sinstructions.
Donotuseachild-restraintsystemwhichemploysanuppertetherbecausethereisno
appropriatemeanstoanchorthetether.
