Thesystemrequiresabout10secondstoalternatebetweenturningthepassengerfrontandside

airbagsandseatbeltpretensionersystemonoroff.

Thepassengerairbagdeactivationindicatorlightmayilluminaterepeatedlyifluggageorother

itemsareputonthepassengerseat,orifthetemperatureofthevehicle'sinteriorchanges

suddenly.

Thepassengerairbagdeactivationindicatorlightmayilluminatefor10secondsifthetotal

seatedweightonthepassengerseatchanges.

Youmustdeactivatethepassengerairbagusingthekey(page2-32)andconsultanAuthorized

MazdaDealer.

Driverandpassengerbuckleswitches

Thebuckleswitchesontheseatbeltsdetectwhetherornottheseatbeltsaresecurely

fastenedandfurthercontrolthedeploymentoftheairbags.

qHowtheSideAirBagsWorkí

Whenairbagcrashsensorsdetectasideimpactofgreaterthanmoderateforce,an

electricalcurrentissenttotheinflators.

Gasesareproducedtoinflatethesideairbagsandaftertheinflation,thesideairbags

quicklydeflate.However,thesideairbagsystemforthepassengerisdesignedtoonly

deployinaccordancewiththetotalseatedweightonthepassengerseat.

Thesideairbagswillfunctiononlyonce.Afterthat,thesideairbagswillnotworkagain

andmustbereplaced.OnlyanAuthorizedMazdaDealercanreplacethesystems.

The side air bag will deploy only on the

side the vehicle receives the force of the

impact.

NOTE

Ifthepassengerseatweightsensorsdetectatotalseatedweightonthepassengerseatislessthan

approximately42kg(93lb),thepassengerfrontandsideairbagsandseatbeltpretensionermaynot

deploy(page2-38).
