NOTE
Engine-startingiscontrolledbythespark
ignitionsystem.

Thisisthenormalrunningpositionafter
theengineisstarted.Thewarninglights
(exceptbrakes)shouldbeinspected
beforetheengineisstarted(page5-39).
ThissystemmeetsallCanadianInterference-
CausingEquipmentStandardrequirements
regulatingtheimpulseelectricalfieldstrength
ofradionoise.
NOTE

Occupantsshouldfastentheirseat
belts.
(Withheadlightauto-leveling)
WhentheignitionswitchisturnedtotheON
position,thesoundoftheheadlightleveling
motorsoperatingatthefrontoftheengine
compartmentcanbeheard.Thisdoesnot
indicateanabnormality.

Makesuretheparkingbrakeison.
Depressthebrakepedal.
(Manualtransmission)
Depresstheclutchpedalalltheway
andshiftintoneutral.
START
Keeptheclutchpedaldepressedwhile
crankingtheengine.
Theengineisstartedinthisposition.It
willcrankuntilyoureleasethekey;then
itreturnstotheONposition.Thebrake
warninglightcanbecheckedafterthe
engineisstarted(page5-39).

Putthevehicleinpark(P).Ifyoumust
restarttheenginewhilethevehicleis
moving,shiftintoneutral(N).

NOTE
IftheignitionswitchisintheLOCKor
ACCpositionwiththekeyinserted,a
continuousbeepsoundwillbeheard
whenthedriver'sdoorisopened.
