Seatbeltshelptodecreasethepossibilityofsevereinjuryduringaccidentsandsudden
stops.Mazdarecommendsthatthedriverandallpassengersalwayswearseatbelts.
Alloftheseatbeltretractorsaredesignedtokeepthelap/shoulderbeltsoutoftheway
whennotinuse.
Thedriver'sseatbelthasnoprovisionsforchild-restraintsystemsandhasonlyan
emergencylockingmode.Thedrivermaywearitcomfortably,anditwilllockduringa
collision.
However,thefrontpassenger'sseatandallrearlap/shoulderbeltretractorsoperateintwo
modes:emergencylockingmode,andforchild-restraintsystems,automaticlockingmode.
Whilewerecommendyouputallchildrenintherearseats,ifyoumustusethefront
passengerseatforachild,slidethefrontpassengerseatasfarbackaspossibleandmake
sureanychild-restraintsystemissecuredproperly.
WARNING
Alwayswearyourseatbeltandmakesurealloccupantsareproperlyrestrained:
Notwearingaseatbeltisextremelydangerous.Duringacollision,occupantsnot
wearingseatbeltscouldhitsomeoneorthingsinsidethevehicleorevenbethrown
outofthevehicle.Theycouldbeseriouslyinjuredorevenkilled.Inthesame
collision,occupantswearingseatbeltswouldbemuchsafer.
Donotweartwistedseatbelts:
Twistedseatbeltsaredangerous.Inacollision,thefullwidthofthebeltisnot
availabletoabsorbtheimpact.Thisputsmoreforceonthebonesbeneaththebelt,
whichcouldcauseseriousinjuryordeath.
Neveruseoneseatbeltonmorethanonepersonatatime:
Usingoneseatbeltformorethanonepersonatatimeisdangerous.Aseatbelt
usedinthiswaycannotspreadtheimpactforcesproperlyandthetwopassengers
couldbecrushedtogetherandseriouslyinjuredorevenkilled.Neveruseonebeltfor
morethanonepersonatatimeandalwaysoperatethevehiclewitheachoccupant
properlyrestrained.
Donotoperateavehiclewithadamagedseatbelt:
Usingadamagedseatbeltisdangerous.Anaccidentcoulddamagethebelt
webbingoftheseatbeltinuse.Adamagedseatbeltcannotprovideadequate
protectioninacollision.HaveanAuthorizedMazdaDealerinspectallseatbelt
systemsinuseduringanaccidentbeforetheyareusedagain.
