Brake Assist System (BAS)
WARNING!
This system complements the ABS by optimizing the
vehicle braking capability during emergency brake ma-
neuvers.Thissystemdetectsanemergencybrakingsitu-
ationbysensingtherateandamountofbrakeapplication
and then applies optimum pressure to the brakes. This
canhelpreducebrakingdistances.
TheBAScannotpreventthenaturallawsofphysics
from acting on the vehicle, nor can it increase the
tractionaffordedbyprevailingroadconditions.The
BAS cannot prevent accidents, including those re-
sulting from excessive speed in turns, driving on
veryslipperysurfaces,orhydroplaning.Onlyasafe,
attentive, and skillful driver can prevent accidents.
The capabilities of a BAS-equipped vehicle must
neverbeexploitedinarecklessordangerousmanner
thatcouldjeopardizetheuser’ssafetyorthesafetyof
others.
ApplyingthebrakesveryquicklyresultsinthebestBAS
assistance. To receive the benefits of this system, you
mustapplycontinuousbrakepedalpressureduringthe
stopping sequence. Do not reduce brake pedal pressure
unlessbrakingisnolongerdesired.Oncethebrakepedal
isreleased,theBASisdeactivated.

Electronic Stability Program (ESP)
Thissystemenhancesdirectionalcontrolandstabilityof
the vehicle under various driving conditions. The ESP
corrects for oversteering and understeering the vehicle
byapplyingthebrakeoftheappropriatewheel.Engine
