How does the airbag supplemental restraint system work?
TheairbagSRSisdesignedto
activatewhenthevehiclesustains
longitudinaldecelerationsufficient
tocausethesensorstoclosean
electricalcircuitthatinitiatesairbag
inflation.Thefactthattheairbags
didnotinflateinacollisiondoesnot
meanthatsomethingiswrongwith
thesystem.Rather,itmeansthe
forceswerenotofthetype
sufficienttocauseactivation.Front
airbagsaredesignedtoinflatein
frontalandnear-frontalcollisions,notrollover,side-impact,or
rear-impactsunlessthecollisioncausessufficientlongitudinal
deceleration.
