Afterdrivingthroughmud,cleanoffresiduestucktorotatingdriveshafts
andtires.Excessmudstuckontiresandrotatingdriveshaftscausesan
imbalancethatcoulddamagedrivecomponents.
Ifthetransmission,transfercaseorfrontaxlearesubmergedinwater,
theirfluidsshouldbecheckedandchanged,ifnecessary.

Iftherearaxleissubmergedinwater,therearaxlelubricantshouldbe
checkedandchanged,ifnecessary.Therearaxleisfilledwitha
syntheticlubricantanddoesnotnormallyrequirealubricantchangefor
thelifeofthevehicle.Rearaxlelubricantquantitiesshouldnotneedto
becheckedunlessaleakissuspected.
Driving on hilly or sloping terrain
Whendrivingonahill,avoiddrivingcrosswiseorturningonsteep
slopes.Youcouldlosetractionandslipsideways.Drivestraightup,
straightdownoravoidthehillcompletely.Knowtheconditionsonthe
othersideofahillbeforedrivingoverthecrest.
Whenclimbingasteephill,startinalowergearratherthandownshifting
toalowergearfromahighergearoncetheascenthasstarted.This
reducesthestrainontheengine.
Whendescendingasteephill,avoidsuddenbraking.Shifttoalowergear
whenaddedenginebrakingisdesired.
Whenspeedcontrolisonandyouaredrivinguphill,yourvehiclespeed
maydropconsiderably,especiallyifyouarecarryingaheavyload.
Ifvehiclespeeddropsmorethan16km/h(10mph),thespeedcontrol
willcancelautomatically.Resumespeedwithacceleratorpedal.
Ifspeedcontrolcancelsafterclimbingthehill,resetspeedbypressing
andholdingtheSETACCELbutton(toresumespeedsover50km/h(30
mph).
Automatictransmissionsmayshiftfrequentlywhiledrivingupsteep
grades.Eliminatefrequentshiftingbyshiftingoutof
D(Drive).
