EngineSoon”lightison,refertothedescriptioninthe Warnin g Lights
and Chim es sectionofthe Instr umen tation chapter.Yourvehiclemay
notpasstheI/Mtestwiththe“CheckEngine/ServiceEngineSoon”light
on.
Ifthevehicle’spowertrainsystemoritsbatteryhasjustbeenserviced,
theOBD-IIsystemisresettoa“notreadyforI/Mtest”condition.To
readytheOBD-IIsystemforI/Mtesting,aminimumof30minutesofcity
andhighwaydrivingisnecessaryasdescribedbelow:

First,atleast10minutesofdrivingonanexpresswayorhighway.
Next,atleast20minutesdrivinginstop-and-go,city-typetrafficwith
atleastfouridleperiods.
Allowthevehicletositforatleasteighthourswithoutstartingthe
engine.Then,starttheengineandcompletetheabovedrivingcycle.The
enginemustwarmuptoitsnormaloperatingtemperature.Oncestarted,
donotturnofftheengineuntiltheabovedrivingcycleiscomplete.

contaminantsmayenterthelamphousingsandaffectlampperformance.
