STARTING AND OPERATING
STARTING PROCEDURES
NOTE: TheignitionswitchmustbeintheONposition,
Beforestartingyourvehicle,adjustyourseat,adjustthe andyoumustpressthebrakepedalbeforeshiftingoutof
inside and outside mirrors, fasten your seat belt, and if
present, instruct all other occupants to buckle their seat
belts.
PARK.
Normal Starting
NOTE:
engine is obtained without pumping or pressing the
acceleratorpedal.
Normal starting of either a cold or a warm
WARNING!
Never leave children alone in a vehicle. Leaving
children in a vehicle unattended is dangerous for a
number of reasons. A child or others could be seri-
ouslyorfatallyinjured.Donotleavethekeysinthe
ignition. A child could operate power windows,
othercontrols,ormovethevehicle.
For vehicles not equipped with Tip Start (Four-Speed
Transmission), turn the ignition switch to the START
position and release it when the engine starts. If the
enginefailstostartwithin10seconds,turntheignition
switchtotheLOCKposition,wait10to15seconds,then
repeattheāNormalStartingāprocedure.
Automatic Transmission
ForvehiclesequippedwithTipStart(Six-SpeedTrans-
mission),turntheignitionswitchtotheSTARTposition
andreleaseitassoonasthestarterengages.Thestarter
The shift lever must be in the PARK or NEUTRAL
positionbeforeyoucanstarttheengine.Applythebrakes
beforeshiftingtoanydrivinggear.
