Starting
STARTING THE ENGINE
NOTE:Wheneveryoustartyourvehicle,releasethekeyassoonasthe
enginestarts.Excessivecrankingcoulddamagethestarter.

Turnthekeyto4(START)
withoutpressingtheaccelerator
pedalandreleaseassoonasthe
enginestarts.Thekeywill
returnto3(ON).

Ifthetemperatureisabove
–12°C
(10°F)andtheengine
doesnotstartwithinfive
secondsonthefirsttry,turnthe
keytoOFF,wait10secondsand
tryagain.

Ifthetemperatureisbelow-12°C(10°F)andtheenginedoesnot
startin15secondsonthefirsttry,turnthekeyOFFandwait10
secondsandtryagain.Iftheenginedoesnotstartintwoattempts,
presstheacceleratorpedalallthewaytofloorandhold.Turnthe
keytoSTARTposition.

Whentheenginestarts,releasethekey,thenreleasetheaccelerator
pedalgraduallyastheenginespeedsup.
Afteridlingforafewseconds,applythebrakeandreleasethe
parkingbrake.
Using the engine block heater  (if equipped)
Anengineblockheaterwarmstheenginecoolant,whichimproves
starting,warmsuptheenginefasterandallowstheheater-defroster
systemtorespondquickly.Useofanengineblockheaterisstrongly
recommendedifyouliveinaregionwheretemperaturesreach-23°C
(-10°F)
orbelow.
Forbestresults,plugtheheaterinatleastthreehoursbeforestarting
thevehicle.Usingtheheaterforlongerthanthreehourswillnotharm
theengine,sotheheatercanbepluggedinthenightbeforestartingthe
vehicle.
WARNING: Topreventelectricalshock,donotuseyourheater
withungroundedelectricalsystemsortwo-pronged(cheater)
adapters.
