Owner maintenance
Planned maintenance
Regular systematic maintenance is the key to
ensuring the continued reliabilityand
efficiencyof your vehicle.
Road testing on dynamometers
(’rolling roads’)
IMPORTANTINFORMATION
Because your vehicle is equipped with
anti-lockbrakes and permanent
four-wheeldrive, it is essential that any
dynamometer testing is carried out ONLY
by a qualified person, familiar with the
dynamometer testing and safety
procedures practised by Land Rover
retailers. Contact your Land Rover retailer
for further information.
The routine maintenance requirements for
your vehicle are shown in the Passport to
Service. Most of the necessary workshop
maintenance requires specialised knowledge
and equipment, and should preferablybe
entrusted to your Land Rover retailer.
Emission control
Your vehicle is fitted with various items of
emission and evaporative control equipment,
designed to meet specific territorial
requirements.
Steering
The intermediate steering shaft, connecting
the steering column to the steering box, is
designed to disconnect under certain crash
conditions. This is a criticalsafetyfeature and
any servicing, replacement or repair must
ONLYbe carried out by an authorised retailer
using approved Land Rover parts.
You should be aware that unauthorised
replacement, modification or tampering with
this equipment by an owner or repair shop
may be unlawful and subject to legalpenalties.
In addition, engine settings must not be
tampered with. These have been established
to ensure that your vehicle complies with
stringent exhaust emission regulations.
Incorrect engine settings may adverselyaffect
exhaust emissions, engine performance and
fuel consumption, as well as causing high
temperatures, which will result in damage to
the catalytic converter and the vehicle.
Examination of the intermediate shaft every
24,000
miles or two years is an important part
of the vehicle’s servicing schedule. However,
you should be aware that a more thorough
examination MUSTbe carried out if the
vehicle is involved in a frontal collision.
Under no circumstances should any form of
oil, grease or lubricant be applied to any part
of the steering column at any time; any noise
or roughness of operation should be reported
to your retailer.
whilst Land Rover North America Inc.
maintains that an authorised Land Rover
retailer is best equipped to carryout repairs
and maintenance on the emission control
system, such work may be carried out by any
competent automotive repair shop, or
individual, using certified parts.
