ENGINEOILLEVELCHECK&TOP-UP
NOTE: If it is necessary to check the oil level
when the engine is hot, switch off the engine
and let the vehicle stand for five minutes to
allow the oil to drain back into the sump. Then
follow the procedure already described.
Check the oil levelat least every250 miles
when the engine is COLDand with the vehicle
resting on levelground.
1.
Withdrawthe dipstickand wipe the blade
clean.
Oil specification
It is essential to use an oil suitable for the
climatic conditions in which the vehicle is to
be operated. Precise specifications are shown
in ’General data’. If in doubt, contact your
Land Rover retailer.
2.
Fullyreinsert the dipstickand withdraw
again to checkthe level, which should
NEVER be allowed to fall below the lower
mark on the dipstick.
3.
To top-up, unscrew the oil filler cap and
add oil to maintain the levelbetween the
UPPER and LOWER marks on the dipstick.
Engine oil change
Ensure the engine oil is changed at the
recommended service intervals (see your
DONOTOVERFILL!
’Passport to Service’).
As a generalguide, if the levelon the dipstick:
Under severe operating conditions (i.e. regular
use in muddy terrain or dusty conditions), the
engine oil must be changed frequently, even
to the extent of a dailychange. Consult your
Land Rover retailer for guidance.

is nearer to the upper mark than the lower,
add no oil.
is nearer to the lower mark than the upper,
add 0.5 US quart (0.5 litre) of oil.
is below the lower mark, add 1 US quart
(1
litre) of oil and re-checkthe levelafter a
further five minutes.
