Ensurethecorrectautomatictransmissionfluidisused.Transmission
fluidrequirementsareindicatedonthedipstickoronthedipstick
handle.Checkthecontainertoverifythefluidbeingaddedisofthe
correcttype.Refertoyourscheduledmaintenanceguidetodetermine
thecorrectserviceinterval.
Sometransmissionfluidsmaybelabeledasdualusage,suchas
MERCON௡andMERCON௡V.Thesedualusagefluidsarenottobeused
inanautomatictransmissionthatrequiresuseoftheMERCON௡type
fluid.However,thesedualusagefluidsmaybeusedintransmissionsthat
requiretheMERCON௡Vtypefluid.
MERCON௡andMERCON௡Vtypefluidsarenotinterchangeable.
DONOTmixMERCON௡andMERCON௡V.Useofatransmission
fluidthatindicatesdualusage(MERCON௡andMERCON௡V)in
anautomatictransmissionapplicationrequiringMERCON௡may
causetransmissiondamage.Useofanyfluidotherthanthe
recommendedfluidmaycausetransmissiondamage.

Approximatedryfillcapacityincludingtransmissionfluidcooling
system,actualrefillcapacitieswillvarybasedonvehicleapplicationand
transmissionfluidcoolingsystem(i.e.coolerssize,coolinglines.auxiliary
coolercapacities).Theamountoftransmissionfluidandfluidlevel
shouldbesetbytheindicationonthedipstick’snormaloperatingrange.

Yourvehicle’srearaxleisfilledwithasyntheticrearaxlelubricantand
isconsideredlubricatedforlife.Theselubricantsdonotneedtobe
checkedorchangedunlessaleakissuspected,serviceisrequiredorthe
axleassemblyhasbeensubmergedinwater.Theaxlelubricantshould
bechangedanytimetherearaxlehasbeensubmergedinwater.

Servicerefillcapacityisdeterminedbyfillingtheaxleto6-14mm
inch)belowthebottomofthefillerholewiththevehicleona
(1/4-9/16
levelsurface.
Add118ml(4oz.)ofAdditiveFrictionModifierXL-3orequivalent
meetingFordspecificationEST-M2C118–A,forcompletefillof8.8inch
and9.75inchTraction-Lokaxles.

Servicerefillcapacityisdeterminedbyfillingtheaxletothebottomof
thefillerholewiththevehicleonalevelsurface.
For10.25inchTraction-Lokaxles,use3.1L(6.5pints)ofMotorcraftSAE
75W-140
SyntheticRearAxleLubricantand236ml(8oz.)ofAdditive
FrictionModifierXL-3orequivalentmeetingFordSpecification
