Seating and Safety Restraints
DeterminingifthePersonalSafetySystemிisoperational
ThePersonalSafetySystemusesawarninglightintheinstrument
clusteroraback-uptonetoindicatetheconditionofthesystem.Refer
totheWarninglightsandchimessectionintheInstrumentCluster
chapter.RoutinemaintenanceofthePersonalSafetySystemisnot
required.
TheRestraintsControlModule(RCM)monitorsitsowninternalcircuits
andthecircuitsfortheairbagsupplementalrestraints,crashsensor(s),
safetybeltpretensioners,frontsafetybeltbucklesensors,andthedriver
seatpositionsensor.Inaddition,theRCMalsomonitorstherestraints
warninglightintheinstrumentcluster.Adifficultywiththesystemis
indicatedbyoneormoreofthefollowing:

Thewarninglightwilleitherflashorstaylit.
Thewarninglightwillnotilluminateimmediatelyaftertheignitionis
turnedon.

Aseriesoffivebeepswillbeheard.Thetonepatternwillrepeat
periodicallyuntiltheproblemandwarninglightarerepaired.
Ifanyofthesethingshappen,evenintermittently,havethePersonal
SafetySystemservicedatanauthorizeddealerimmediately.Unless
serviced,thesystemmaynotfunctionproperlyintheeventofa
collision.
Safety restraints precautions
Alwaysdriveandridewithyourseatbackuprightandthelap
beltsnugandlowacrossthehips.
Toreducetheriskofinjury,makesurechildrensitintheback
seatwheretheycanbeproperlyrestrained.
Neverletapassengerholdachildonhisorherlapwhilethe
vehicleismoving.Thepassengercannotprotectthechildfrom
injuryinacollision.
Alloccupantsofthevehicle,includingthedriver,shouldalways
properlyweartheirsafetybelts,evenwhenanairbag
supplementalrestraintsystem(SRS)isprovided.
