driver.Youmustgatherinformationasaccuratelyandconsistentlyas
possible.Fuelexpense,frequencyoffill-upsorfuelgaugereadingsare
NOTaccurateasameasureoffueleconomy.Wedonotrecommend
takingfueleconomymeasurementsduringthefirst1,000miles(1,600
km)ofdriving(enginebreak-inperiod).Youwillgetamoreaccurate
measurementafter2,000miles-3,000miles(3,000km–5,000km).
Filling the tank
Theadvertisedfuelcapacityofthefueltankonyourvehicleisequalto
theratedrefillcapacityofthefueltankaslistedintheRefillcapacities
sectionofthischapter.
Theadvertisedcapacityistheamountoftheindicatedcapacityandthe
emptyreservecombined.Indicatedcapacityisthedifferenceinthe
amountoffuelinafulltankandatankwhenthefuelgaugeindicates
empty.Emptyreserveisthesmallamountoffuelremaininginthefuel
tankafterthefuelgaugeindicatesempty.
Theamountofusablefuelintheemptyreservevariesandshould
notbereliedupontoincreasedrivingrange.Whenrefuelingyour
vehicleafterthefuelgaugeindicatesempty,youmightnotbe
abletorefuelthefullamountoftheadvertisedcapacityofthe
fueltankduetotheemptyreservestillpresentinthetank.
