coolantconcentrationinyourvehiclewillprovideadequate
protectionatthetemperaturesinwhichyoudrive.
Vehiclesdrivenyear-roundinnon-extremeclimatesshouldusea50/50
mixtureofenginecoolantanddistilledwaterforoptimumcoolingsystem
andengineprotection.
What you should know about fail-safe cooling (4.6L V8 engine
only)
Iftheenginecoolantsupplyisdepleted,thisfeatureallowsthevehicleto
bedriventemporarilybeforeincrementalcomponentdamageisincurred.
The“fail-safe”distancedependsonambienttemperatures,vehicleload
andterrain.
Fail-safecoolingandengineoiloverheatmode(4.6LV8only)
Iftheenginecoolantand/orengineoiloverheat,thevehicle’sfail-safe
modeswillreduceenginepowertolimitenginedamage,evenwitha
totallossofcoolant.Thevehicle’srangeand/orspeedwillbereduced,
dependingonvehicleload,terrain,andoutsidetemperatures.
Theinstrumentclusterprovideswarningsforeachmode.

Fail-SafeCoolingMode:The
(Serviceengine
soon),
(Engineoilpressure),and (Enginecoolant
temperature)indicatorswillbeon.
Alongwiththesewarningindicators,theenginecoolanttemperature
gaugewillreadintheHot(H)area.
Iftheenginecoolantreachesevenhottertemperatures,fail-safe
coolingmodelimitsenginepowermoreanddisablesairconditioning.
Theenginewillswitchtoalternatingcylinderoperationtohelpcool
theengine.Theenginewillrunroughinthismode.
Ifcontinuedoperationincreasestheenginecoolanttemperaturetoa
criticalrange,theenginewillshutdown.Steeringandbrakingeffort
willincrease.Onceenginecoolanttemperaturecools,theenginecan
berestarted.

EngineOilOverheatMode:The
indicatorwillbeon.Theinstrumentclusterhasnoseparateoil
temperatureindicator.
