NOTE
Ifthetemperaturegaugeindicates
overheating,thevehiclelosespower,or
youhearaloudknockingorpinging
noise,theengineisprobablytoohot.
Oncetheenginecoolantexceedsa
presettemperature,anelectricalcooling
fanturnson.Itwillcontinuerunning
forabout10minutesaftertheignition
switchisturnedtooff.
WARNING
Ifthetemperaturegaugeindicates
overheating:

Drivesafelytothesideoftheroadand
parkofftheright-of-way.
Turnofftheignitionswitchand
makesurethefanisnotrunning
beforeattemptingtoworknearthe
electricalcoolingfan:
Workingneartheelectricalcooling
fanwhenitisrunningisdangerous.
Youcouldbehitbythefanand
seriouslyinjured.
Putavehiclewithanautomatic
transmissioninpark(P),amanual
transmissioninneutral.

4. Turnofftheairconditioner.

Checkwhethercoolantorsteamis
escapingfromunderthehoodorfrom
theenginecompartment.
Donotremovethecooling
systemcapwhentheengineand
radiatorarehot:
Ifsteamiscomingfromtheengine
compartment:
Whentheengineandradiatorarehot,
scaldingcoolantandsteammayshoot
outunderpressureandcauseserious
injury.
Don'tgonearthefrontofthevehicle.
Stoptheengine.
Waituntilthesteamdissipates,then
openthehoodandstarttheengine.
Ifneithercoolantnorsteamis
escaping:
Openthehoodandidletheengineuntil
itcools.
OpenthehoodONLYaftersteamisno
longerescapingfromtheengine:
Steamfromanoverheatedengineis
dangerous.Theescapingsteamcould
seriouslyburnyou.
CAUTION
Ifthecoolingfandoesnotoperate
whiletheengineisrunning,theengine
temperaturewillincrease.Stopthe
engineandcallanAuthorizedMazda
Dealer.
