qHowtheSideandCurtainAirBagsWork
Whenairbagcrashsensorsdetectasideimpactofgreaterthanmoderateforce,an
electricalcurrentissenttotheinflators.
Gasesareproducedtoinflatethesideandcurtainairbagsandaftertheinflation,theside
andcurtainairbagsquicklydeflate.However,thesidebagsystemforthefrontpassenger
isdesignedtoonlydeployinaccordancewiththetotalseatedweightonthefrontpassenger
seat.
Thesideandcurtainairbagswillfunctiononlyonce.Afterthat,thesideandcurtainair
bagswillnotworkagainandmustbereplaced.OnlyanAuthorizedMazdaDealercan
replacethesystems.
The side and curtain air bags will deploy only on the side the
vehicle receives the force of the impact.

NOTE
Ifthefrontpassengerseatweightsensorsdetectatotalseatedweightonthefront
passengerseatislessthanapproximately42kg(93lb),thefrontpassengerfrontandside
airbagsandseatbeltpretensionermaynotdeploy(page2-40),butthecurtainairbags
maydeploy.
