Whenairbagcrashsensorsdetectafrontalimpactofgreaterthanmoderateforce,an
electricalcurrentissenttotheinflators.
Gasesareproducedtoinflatethefrontairbagsandaftertheinflation,thefrontairbags
quicklydeflate.
Thefrontairbagswillfunctiononlyonce.Afterthat,thefrontairbagswillnotwork
againandmustbereplaced.
OnlyanAuthorizedMazdaDealercanreplacethesystemcomponents.
Thefront,dualstageairbagscontrolairbaginflationintwoenergystages.Duringan
impactofmoderateseveritythefrontairbagsdeploywithlesserenergy,whereasduring
moresevereimpacts,theydeploywithmoreenergy.Deploymentofthefrontairbagsmay
differbetweenthedriverandthefrontpassengerdependingonthedriverseatposition,
frontpassengerweightandfrontseatbeltusage,allofwhichprovidedatafromeachsensor
totheairbagsystem.
The front air bags will deploy only
in a frontal or frontal offset impact.
Driverseatslidepositionsensor
Yourvehicleisequippedwithadriverseatslidepositionsensorasapartofthe
supplementalrestraintsystem.Thesensorislocatedunderthedriverseat.Thesensor
determineswhetherthedriverseatisforeoraftofareferencepositionandsendstheseat
positiontothediagnosticmodule(SASunit).Thesensorisalsodesignedtocontrolthe
deploymentofthedriverairbagdependingonhowclosethedriverseatistothesteering
wheel.
Theairbag/frontseatbeltpretensionersystemwarninglightflashesifthesensorhasa
possiblemalfunction(page2-49).
