Treadwear:Thetreadweargradeisacomparativeratingbasedonthewearrateofthetire
whentestedundercontrolledconditionsonaspecifiedgovernmenttestcourse.For
example,atiregraded150wouldwearoneandone-half(11/2)timesaswellonthe
governmentcourseasatiregraded100.
Traction:Thetractiongrades,fromhighesttolowestareAA,A,B,andC.Thegrades
representthetire'sabilitytostoponwetpavementasmeasuredundercontrolledconditions
onspecifiedgovernmenttestsurfacesofasphaltandconcrete.AtiremarkedCmayhave
poortractionperformance.
Temperature:ThetemperaturegradesareA(thehighest),BandC,representingthetire's
resistancetothegenerationofheatanditsabilitytodissipateheatwhentestedunder
controlledconditionsonaspecifiedindoorlaboratorytestwheel.
SnowTires
Insomeheavysnowareas,localgovernmentsmayrequiretruesnowtires,thosewithvery
deeplycuttread.Thesetiresshouldonlybeusedinpairsorplacedonallfourwheels.
Makesureyoupurchasesnowtiresthatarethesamesizeandconstructiontypeastheother
tiresonyourvehicle.
