Thedetectabilityoftheradarsensorshasitslimitations.TheBSMsystemmaynotoperate
l
properlyunderthefollowingconditions:
Ice,snow,orsoiladherestotherearbumpersurfacearoundtheradarsensors.
l
Duringadverseweatherconditionssuchasrainorsnow,orunderconditionswherewateris
l
sprayed.
Therearbumperareaaroundtheradarsensorsisblockedbyforeignmaterial(suchas
l
stickersorabicyclecarrier).
Theradarsensorsmaynotdetectalltypesofvehiclesaroundyourvehicle,especiallythe
l
followingtypesofvehicles:
Motorcycles
l
Vehicleswithbodyshapesthatradarmaynotreflectsuchasaflatbedtrailerwithnocargo.
l
Vehicleswithlowerbodyheightsuchassportscars.
l
HavetheradarsensorsinspectedatanAuthorizedMazdaDealerifanyshockisappliedtothe
l
rearbumper,eveninaminoraccident.Ifthevehicleisdrivenwithadamagedradarsensor,the
systemmaynotoperateproperlyresultinginanaccident.
Forrepairsorpaintworkaroundtheradarsensors,orreplacementofthebumper,consultan
l
AuthorizedMazdaDealer.
TheradarsensorsoftheBSMsystemmayberegulatedundertheradiowaverelatedlawsofthe
l
countrywherethevehicleisdriven.ThesensorsinthissystemareapprovedforuseintheU.S.A.
(includingterritories),Canada,andMexico.IfavehiclewithaBSMsystemisdriveninacountry
otherthantheU.S.A.,Canada,orMexico,thesystemhastobeturnedoffusingtheBSMOFF
switch.
Thedetectionareaofthesystemhasbeendeterminedbasedonthelanewidthofgeneral
l
freeways.Thereforeonaroadwithanarrowerlanewidth,thesystemmaydetectvehiclesona
lanenexttotheadjacentlaneandoperatethewarninglight/beep.Onaroadwithwiderlane
width,thesystemmaynotdetectvehiclesontheadjacentlaneandmaynotoperatethewarning
light/beep.
Operationofthewarninglight/beepmaybedelayedorthesystemmaynotoperatethewarning
l
light/beepunderthefollowingconditions:
Thevehicleacceleratesfromastanding-startwithavehiclealongside.
l
Avehiclemovesfromalanetwolanesovertotheadjacentlane.
l
Thedifferenceinvehiclespeedbetweenyourvehicleandanothervehicleislargerwhen
l
passingorbeingpassed,andthevehiclepassesthedetectionareawithinashortperiodof
time.
Onasteepincline,orwhenthereisadifferenceinheightbetweenlanes.
l
ImmediatelyafterthesystemhasbeenactivatedbypressingtheBSMOFFswitchagainafterit
l
hasbeenturnedoff(BSMOFFindicatorlightininstrumentpanelilluminates)bypressingthe
switch.
Althoughthesystemmaydetectobjectsontheroadsidesuchasparkedvehiclesorguardrailsand
l
operatethewarninglight/beep,itdoesnotindicateamalfunction.
Ifthevehicleisdrivenonaroadwithlesstrafficandfewvehiclesthattheradarsensorscan
l
detect,thesystemmaypause(TheBSMOFFindicatorlightintheinstrumentpanelflashes).
However,itdoesnotindicateamalfunction.
