Youarerequiredbylawtouseachild-restraintsystemforchildrenintheU.S.andCanada.
Checkyourlocalandstateorprovinciallawsforspecificrequirementsregardingthesafety
ofchildrenridinginyourvehicle.
Whateverchild-restraintsystemyouconsider,pleasepicktheappropriateonefortheage
andsizeofthechild,obeythelawandfollowtheinstructionsthatcomewiththeindividual
child-restraintsystem.
Achildwhohasoutgrownchild-restraintsystemsshouldsitintherearanduseseatbelts,
bothlapandshoulder.Iftheshoulderbeltcrossestheneckorface,movethechildcloserto
thecenterofthevehicleintheoutboardseats,andtowardsthebuckleontherightifthe
childisseatedonthecenterseat.
Statisticsconfirmthattherearseatsarethebestplaceforallchildrenupto12yearsofage,
andmoresowithasupplementalrestraintsystem(airbags).
Arear-facingchild-restraintsystemshouldNEVERbeusedonthefrontseatwiththeair
bagsystemactivated.Thefrontpassenger'sseatisalsotheleastpreferredseatforother
child-restraintsystems.
Toreducethechanceofinjuriescausedbydeploymentofthefrontpassengerairbag,your
vehicleisequippedwiththefrontpassengerseatweightsensors.Thesesensorsdeactivate
thefrontpassengerfrontandsideairbagsandalsothefrontpassengerseatbelt
pretensionersystemwhenthetotalseatedweightonthefrontpassengerseatislessthan
approximately30kg(66lb).
Whenaninfantorsmallchildsitsonthefrontpassengerseat,thesystemshutsoffthefront
passengerairbag,somakesurethefrontpassengerairbagdeactivationindicatorlight
illuminates.
Evenifthefrontpassengerairbagisshutoff,Mazdastronglyrecommendsthatchildrenbe
properlyrestrainedandchild-restraintsystemsofallkindsareproperlysecuredontherear
seatswhicharethebestplaceforchildren.
