CAUTION
Theautomatictransaxlefluidlevelshould
beinspectedregularly.Measureitas
describedbelow.
Toavoiddamagetothepower
steeringpump,don'toperatethe
vehicleforlongperiodswhenthe
powersteeringfluidlevelislow.
Thevolumeoffluidchangeswith
temperature.Fluidmustbecheckedwhile
idlingtheenginewithoutdrivingat
normaloperatingtemperature.
NOTE
Usespecifiedpowersteeringfluid(page10-4).
Inspectthefluidlevelinthereservoirat
eachengineoilchangewiththeengineoff
andcold.Addfluidifnecessary;itdoes
notrequireperiodicchanging.
CAUTION
ØLowfluidlevelcausestransaxle
slippage.Overfillingcancause
foaming,lossoffluid,and
transaxlemalfunction.
ØUsespecifiedfluid(page10-4).A
nonspecifiedfluidcouldresultin
transaxlemalfunctionandfailure.

Parkonalevelsurfaceandsetthe
parkingbrakefirmly.
Starttheengineanddepressthebrake
pedal.
Movetheshiftleverthroughallranges,
thensetitatP.
ThelevelmustbekeptbetweenMAXand
MIN.
WARNING
Visuallyexaminethelinesandhosesfor
leaksanddamage.
Makesurethebrakepedalisapplied
beforeshiftingtheshiftlever:
Shiftingtheshiftleverwithoutfirst
depressingthebrakepedalis
dangerous.Thevehiclecouldmove
suddenlyandcauseanaccident.
Ifnewfluidisrequiredfrequently,consult
anAuthorizedMazdaDealer.

Withtheenginestillidling,pulloutthe
dipstick,wipeitclean,andputitback.
