(exceptbrakes)shouldbeinspected
beforetheengineisstarted(page5-40).
ThissystemmeetsallCanadianInterference-
CausingEquipmentStandardrequirements
regulatingtheimpulseelectricalfieldstrength
ofradionoise.

Occupantsshouldfastentheirseat
belts.
WhentheignitionswitchisturnedtotheON
position,thesoundofthefuelpumpmotor
operatingnearthefueltankcanbeheard.This
doesnotindicateanabnormality.

Depressthebrakepedal.

Depresstheclutchpedalalltheway
andshiftintoneutral.
Keeptheclutchpedaldepressedwhile
crankingtheengine.
Theengineisstartedinthisposition.It
willcrankuntilyoureleasethekey;then
itreturnstotheONposition.Thebrake
warninglightcanbecheckedafterthe
engineisstarted(page5-40).
(Automatictransmission)
Putthevehicleinpark(P).Ifyoumust
restarttheenginewhilethevehicleis
moving,shiftintoneutral(N).
qIgnitionKeyReminder
IftheignitionswitchisintheLOCKor
ACCpositionwiththekeyinserted,a
continuousbeepsoundwillbeheard
whenthedriver'sdoorisopened.
NOTE

Thestarterwillnotoperateunlesstheclutchis
depressedsufficiently.
(Automatictransmission)
Thestarterwillnotoperateiftheshiftleveris
notinPorN.

TurntheignitionswitchtotheSTART
positionandhold(upto10secondsat
atime)untiltheenginestarts.
CAUTION
Donottrythestarterformorethan
10
secondsatatime.Iftheengine
stallsorfailstostart,wait10seconds
beforetryingagain.Otherwise,you
maydamagethestarteranddrain
thebattery.
