Seatingachildinachild-restraintsystemonthepassengerseatisdangerous:
Thisvehicleisequippedwithbothapassengerseatweightsensorandapassenger
airbagdeactivationindicatorlight(page2-43).Evenwiththepassengerseatweight
sensors,seatingachildinachild-restraintsystemonthepassengerseatunderthe
followingconditionsincreasesthedangerofthepassengerairbagdeployingand
couldresultinseriousinjuryordeathtothechild.Theseareamongthereasonswhy
thepassengerairbagshouldbeturnedoffusingthekey.
ØThetotalseatedweightofthechildwiththechild-restraintsystemonthe
passengerseatisapproximately30kg(66lb)ormorewithachildinthechild-
restraintsystem.
ØLuggageorotheritemsareplacedontheseatwiththechildinthechild-restraint
system.
ØTheseatiswashed.
ØLiquidsarespilledontheseat.
ØThepassengerseatismovedbackward,anditispushedintoluggageorother
itemsplacedbehindit.
ØLuggageorotheritemsareplacedbetweenthepassengerseatandcenter
console.
ØAnyaccessories,whichmightincreasethetotalseatedweightonthepassenger
seat,areattachedtothepassengerseat.
Beforeinstallingchild-restraintsystemonthepassengerseat,movethepassenger
seatasfarbackaspossible:
Inacollision,theforceofadeployingairbagcouldcauseseriousinjuryordeathto
thechild.MakesurethatthepassengerairbagdeactivationswitchisintheOFF
position.RefertoPassengerAirBagDeactivationSwitch(page2-39).
Donotallowachildtoleanoveroragainstthesidewindowofavehiclewithsideair
bags:
Allowinganyonetoleanoveroragainstthedoorisdangerous.Ifthevehicleis
equippedwithsideairbags,theimpactofaninflatingsideairbagcouldcause
seriousinjuryordeathtotheperson.Childrenaremorelikelytosleepinthevehicle;
whentheydo,theyaremoreatriskinthepassenger'sseatthathasasideairbag
becausetheymayslumpoverintothepathoftheseatback-mountedairbag.
Furthermore,leaningoveroragainstthedoorscouldblockthesideairbagand
eliminatetheadvantagesofsupplementalprotection.Becausethesideairbag
deploysfromtheoutboardshoulderoftheseat,donotallowthechildtoleanoveror
againstthesidewindow,evenifthechildisseatedinachild-restraintsystem.
