thevehicleshouldbeinspectedbyanauthorizeddealer.
TheABSoperatesbydetectingthe
onsetofwheellockupduringbrake
applicationsandcompensatesfor
thistendency.Thewheelsare
preventedfromlockingevenwhen
thebrakesarefirmlyapplied.The
accompanyingillustrationdepicts
theadvantageofanABSequipped
vehicle(onbottom)toanon-ABS
equippedvehicle(ontop)duringhardbrakingwithlossoffrontbraking
traction.
WARNING:TheAnti-Locksystemdoesnotdecreasethetime
necessarytoapplythebrakesoralwaysreducestopping
distance.Alwaysleaveenoughroombetweenyourvehicleandthe
vehicleinfrontofyoutostop.
Using ABS
Whenhardbrakingisrequired,applycontinuousforceonthebrake
pedal;donotpumpthebrakepedalsincethiswillreducethe
effectivenessoftheABSandwillincreaseyourvehicle’sstopping
distance.TheABSwillbeactivatedimmediately,allowingyoutoretain
steeringcontrolduringhardbrakingandonslipperysurfaces.However,
theABSdoesnotdecreasestoppingdistance.

clustermomentarilyilluminates
ABS
whentheignitionisturnedon.If
thelightdoesnotilluminateduring
startup,remainsonorflashes,the
ABSmaybedisabledandmayneedtobeserviced.
EvenwhentheABSisdisabled,
normalbrakingisstilleffective.If
yourBRAKEwarninglamp
illuminateswiththeparkingbrake
released,haveyourbrakesystem
servicedimmediatelybyanauthorizeddealer.
