Checking automatic transmission fluid
RefertoyourScheduledMaintenanceGuidefor
scheduledintervalsforfluidchecksandchanges.
Yourtransaxledoesnotconsumefluid.However,the
fluidlevelshouldbecheckedifthetransaxleisnot
workingproperly,i.e.,ifthetransaxleslipsorshifts
slowlyorifyounoticesomesignoffluidleakage.
Automatictransmissionfluidexpandswhen
warmed.Toobtainanaccuratefluidcheck,
drivethevehicleuntilitiswarmedup
(approximately30km[20miles]).Ifyour
vehiclehasbeenoperatedforanextended
periodathighspeeds,incitytrafficduringhot
weatherorpullingatrailer,thevehicleshould
beturnedoffforabout30minutestoallow
fluidtocoolbeforechecking.

Drivethevehicle30km(20miles)oruntilit
reachesnormaloperatingtemperature.
2.
Parkthevehicleonalevelsurfaceandengagethe
parkingbrake.
3.
Withtheparkingbrakeengagedandyourfooton
thebrakepedal,starttheengineandmovethe
gearshiftleverthroughallofthegearranges.Allow
sufficienttimeforeachgeartoengage.
4.
LatchthegearshiftleverinP(Park)andleavethe
enginerunning.
5.
Removethedipstick,wipingitcleanwithaclean,
drylintfreerag.
6.
Installthedipstickmakingsureitisfullyseatedin
thefillertube.
7.
Thefluidshouldbeinthedesignatedareasfor
normaloperatingtemperature.
Removethedipstickandinspectthefluidlevel.
