Determining if the personal safety system is operational
ThePersonalSafetySystemusesawarningindicatorlightinthe
instrumentclusteroraback-uptonetoindicatetheconditionofthe
system.RefertotheRestraintsWarningIndicatorsectioninthe
Instrumentationchapter.RoutinemaintenanceofthePersonalSafety
Systemisnotrequired.
TheRCM(restraintscontrolmodule)monitorsitsowninternalcircuits
andthecircuitsfortheairbagsupplementalrestraints,crashsensor(s),
safetybeltpretensioners,frontsafetybeltusagesensorsanddriver’sseat
positionsensor.Inaddition,theRCMalsomonitorstherestraints
warningindicatorlightintheinstrumentcluster.Adifficultywiththe
systemisindicatedbyoneormoreofthefollowing:

Theindicatorlightwilleither
flashorstaylit.
Theindicatorlightwillnot
illuminateimmediatelyafter
ignitionisturnedon.

Aseriesoffivebeepswillbeheard.Thetonepatternwillrepeat
periodicallyuntiltheproblemandindicatorlightarerepaired.
Ifanyofthesethingshappen,evenintermittently,havethePersonal
SafetySystemservicedatyourdealershiporbyaqualifiedtechnician
immediately.Unlessserviced,thesystemmaynotfunctionproperlyin
theeventofacollision.
