Safety belt pretensioner
Yourvehicleisequippedwithsafetybeltpretensionersatthedriverand
frontoutboardpassengerseatingpositions.
Thesafetybeltpretensionersaredesignedtoactivateonlywhenthe
safetybeltsarefastenedduringcertainfrontalornear-frontalcollisions
withsufficientlongitudinaldeceleration.Asafetybeltpretensionerisa
devicewhichtightensthewebbingofthelapandshoulderbeltsinsuch
awaythattheyfitmoresnuglyagainstthebody.
Thedriverandfrontoutboardpassengersafetybeltsystem(including
retractors,bucklesandheightadjusters)mustbereplacedifthevehicle
isinvolvedinacollisionthatresultsintheactivationofthesafetybelt
pretensioners.RefertotheSafetybeltmaintenancesectioninthis
chapter.
Intheeventofacollisionresultinginthedeploymentofthe
frontairbags,thefrontsafetybeltsmustbereplacedifthey
wereinuse.Failuretoreplacethesafetybeltassemblycouldresultin
severepersonalinjuriesintheeventofacollision.
Safety belt usage sensors
Thedriverandfrontoutboardpassengersafetybeltbucklesare
equippedwithsensorsthatdetectifthesafetybeltsarefastened.The
sensorsprovideinformationtothePersonalSafetySystemwhichcan
thenadapttheairbagdeploymentorsafetybeltpretensioneractivation
baseduponsafetybeltusage.
ThePersonalSafetySystemprovidesthemostbenefittobelted
occupants.Thesystemmonitorsandtailorstheairbag
deploymentbaseduponsafetybeltusage.Failuretoproperlywear
yoursafetybeltwillincreaseyourriskofinjury.
