Occasionalbrakenoiseisnormal.Ifametal-to-metal,continuousgrinding
orcontinuoussquealsoundispresent,thebrakeliningsmaybeworn-out
andshouldbeinspectedbyaqualifiedservicetechnician.Ifthevehicle
hascontinuousvibrationorshudderinthesteeringwheelwhilebraking,
thevehicleshouldbeinspectedbyaqualifiedservicetechnician.

Undernormaloperatingconditions,brakedustmayaccumulateonthe
wheels.Somebrakedustisinevitableasbrakeswearanddoesnot
contributetobrakenoise.Theuseofmodernfrictionmaterialswith
emphasisonimprovedperformanceandenvironmentalconsiderations
canleadtomoredustthaninthepast.Brakedustcanbecleanedby
weeklywashingwithsoapywaterandasoftsponge.Heavierdepositscan
beremovedwithMotorcraftWheelandTireCleaner(ZC-37–A).
Four-wheel anti-lock brake system (ABS) (if equipped)
YourvehiclemaybeequippedwithanAnti-lockBrakingSystem(ABS).
Thissystemhelpsyoumaintainsteeringcontrolduringemergencystops
bykeepingthebrakesfromlocking.NoisefromtheABSpumpmotor
andbrakepedalpulsationmaybeobservedduringABSbraking;any
pulsationormechanicalnoiseyoumayfeelorhearisnormal.
UsingABS
Whenhardbrakingisrequired,applycontinuousforceonthebrake
pedal;donotpumpthebrakepedalsincethiswillreducethe
effectivenessoftheABSandwillincreaseyourvehicle’ sstopping
distance.TheABSwillbeactivatedimmediately,allowingyoutoretain
fullsteeringcontrolduringhardbrakingandonslipperysurfaces.
However,theABSdoesnotdecreasestoppingdistance.
