DRIVING THROUGH WATER
Ifdrivingthroughdeeporstandingwaterisunavoidable,proceedvery
slowlyespeciallyifthedepthisnotknown.Neverdrivethroughwater
thatishigherthanthebottomofthehubs(fortrucks)orthebottomof
thewheelrims(forcars).Tractionorbrakecapabilitymaybelimited
andyourvehiclemaystall.Watermayalsoenteryourengine’sairintake
andseverelydamageyourengine.
Oncethroughthewater,alwaysdrythebrakesbymovingyourvehicle
slowlywhileapplyinglightpressureonthebrakepedal.Wetbrakesdo
notstopthevehicleasquicklyasdrybrakes.Drivingthroughdeep
waterwherethetransaxleissubmergedmayallowwaterintothe
transaxleandcauseinternaldamage.Havethefluidcheckedand,
ifwaterisfound,replacethefluid.
VEHICLE LOADING – WITH AND WITHOUT A TRAILER
Thissectionwillguideyouintheproperloadingofyourvehicleand/or
trailer,tokeepyourloadedvehicleweightwithinitsdesignrating
capability,withorwithoutatrailer.Properlyloadingyourvehiclewill
providemaximumreturnofvehicledesignperformance.Beforeloading
yourvehicle,familiarizeyourselfwiththefollowingtermsfordetermining
yourvehicle’sweightratings,withorwithoutatrailer,fromthevehicle’s
SafetyCertificationLabelandTireandLoadInformationLabel:
BaseCurbWeight–istheweightofthevehicleincludingafulltankof
fuelandallstandardequipment.Itdoesnotincludepassengers,cargo,or
optionalequipment.
VehicleCurbWeight–istheweightofyournewvehiclewhenyou
pickeditupfromyourdealerplusanyaftermarketequipment.
CargoWeight–includesallweightaddedtotheBaseCurbWeight,
includingcargoandoptionalequipment.Whentowing,trailertongueload
orkingpinweightisalsopartofcargoweight.
GAW(GrossAxleWeight)–isthetotalweightplacedoneachaxle
(frontandrear)–includingvehiclecurbweightandallpayload.
