Readiness for Inspection/Maintenance (I/M)  testing

theon-boarddiagnosticssystem.Ifyour
indicatorison,refertothe
descriptionintheWarninglightsandchimessectionofthe
InstrumentClusterchapter.YourvehiclemaynotpasstheI/Mtestwith
the
indicatoron.
Ifthevehiclespowertrainsystemoritsbatteryhasjustbeenserviced,
theon-boarddiagnosticssystemisresettoanotreadyforI/Mtest
condition.Toreadytheon-boarddiagnosticssystemforI/Mtesting,a
minimumof30minutesofcityandhighwaydrivingisnecessaryas
describedbelow:
First,atleast10minutesofdrivingonanexpresswayorhighway.
Next,atleast20minutesdrivinginstop-and-go,city-typetrafficwith
atleastfouridleperiods.
Allowthevehicletositforatleasteighthourswithoutstartingthe
engine.Then,starttheengineandcompletetheabovedrivingcycle.The
enginemustwarmuptoitsnormaloperatingtemperature.Oncestarted,
donotturnofftheengineuntiltheabovedrivingcycleiscomplete.
CHECKING AND ADDING POWER  STEERING FLUID
Checkthepowersteeringfluid.
Refertothescheduledmaintenance
guidefortheserviceinterval
schedules.Ifaddingfluidis
necessary,useonlyMERCON
ATF.
1.
Starttheengineandletitrununtilitreachesnormaloperating
temperature(theenginecoolanttemperaturegaugeindicatorwillbe
nearthecenterofthenormalareabetweenHandC).
2.Whiletheengineidles,turnthesteeringwheelleftandrightseveral
times.
3.
Turntheengineoff.
