passengerairbagisoperational.

IftheOFFlightisilluminatedwhenthepassengerairbagswitch
isintheONpositionandtheignitionswitchisinON,havethe
passengerairbagswitchservicedatyourFordorLincoln-Mercury
dealerimmediately.
ThepassengersideairbagshouldalwaysbeON(theairbagOFFlight
shouldnotbeilluminated)unlessthepassengerisapersonwhomeets
therequirementsstatedeitherinCategory1,2or3ofthe
NHTSA/TransportCanadadeactivationcriteriawhichfollows.
Thesafetybeltsforthedriverandrightfrontpassengerseating
positionshavebeenspecificallydesignedtofunctiontogether
withtheairbagsincertaintypesofcrashes.WhenyouturnOFFyour
airbag,younotonlylosetheprotectionoftheairbag,youalsomay
reducetheeffectivenessofyoursafetybeltsystem,whichwas
designedtoworkwiththeairbag.Ifyouarenotapersonwhomeets
therequirementsstatedintheNHTSA/TransportCanadadeactivation
criteriaturningOFFtheairbagcanincreasetheriskofseriousinjury
ordeathinacollision.
Ifyourvehiclehasrearseats,alwaystransportchildrenwhoare

andyoungerintherearseat.Alwaysusesafetybeltsand
childrestraintsproperly.Ifachildinarearfacinginfantseatmustbe
transportedinfront,thepassengerairbagmustbeturnedOFF.Thisis
becausethebackoftheinfantseatistooclosetotheinflatingairbag
andtheriskofafatalinjurytotheinfantwhentheairbaginflatesis
substantial.
Thevastmajorityofdriversandpassengersaremuchsaferwithanair
bagthanwithout.Todotheirjobandreducetheriskoflifethreatening
