Whenliftingaplastic-casedbattery,excessivepressureonthe
endwallscouldcauseacidtoflowthroughtheventcaps,
resultinginpersonalinjuryand/ordamagetothevehicleorbattery.
Liftthebatterywithabatterycarrierorwithyourhandsonopposite
corners.
Keepbatteriesoutofreachofchildren.Batteriescontainsulfuric
acid.Avoidcontactwithskin,eyesorclothing.Shieldyoureyes
whenworkingnearthebatterytoprotectagainstpossiblesplashingof
acidsolution.Incaseofacidcontactwithskinoreyes,flush
immediatelywithwaterforaminimumof15minutesandgetprompt
medicalattention.Ifacidisswallowed,callaphysicianimmediately.
Batteryposts,terminalsandrelatedaccessoriescontainleadand
leadcompounds.Washhandsafterhandling.
Forinformationontransmissionoperationafterthebatteryhasbeen
disconnected,refertoShiftstrategyintheDrivingchapter.
Becauseyourvehicle’sengineisalsoelectronicallycontrolledbya
computer,somecontrolconditionsaremaintainedbypowerfromthe
battery.Whenthebatteryisdisconnectedoranewbatteryisinstalled,
theenginemustrelearnitsidleandfueltrimstrategyforoptimum
driveabilityandperformance.Tobeginthisprocess:

Withthevehicleatacompletestop,settheparkingbrake.

position(manualtransmission),turnoffallaccessoriesandstartthe
engine.
PutthegearshiftinP(Park)(automatictransmission)ortheneutral

Allowtheenginetoidleforatleastoneminute.
TurntheA/Conandallowtheenginetoidleforatleastoneminute.
Drivethevehicletocompletetherelearningprocess.
Thevehiclemayneedtobedriven10miles(16km)ormoreto
relearntheidleandfueltrimstrategy.

Ifyoudonotallowtheenginetorelearnitsidletrim,theidle
qualityofyourvehiclemaybeadverselyaffecteduntiltheidle
trimiseventuallyrelearned.
