Preparing to tow
Usetheproperequipmentfortowingatrailerandmakesureitis
properlyattachedtoyourvehicle.Seeyourdealerorareliabletrailer
dealerifyourequireassistance.
Hitches
Donotusehitchesthatclampontothevehiclesbumperorattachtothe
axle.Youmustdistributetheloadinyourtrailersothat10%15%ofthe
totalweightofthetrailerisonthetongue.
Load equalizing hitch
Whenhookingupatrailerusingaloadequalizinghitch,alwaysusethe
followingprocedure:
1.
alldoorsclosed,allowthevehicletostandforseveralminutessothatit
canlevel.
Parktheunloadedvehicleonalevelsurface.Withtheignitiononand

Measuretheheightofareferencepointonthefrontandrearbumpers
atthecenterofthevehicle.
3.
Attachthetrailertothevehicleandadjustthehitchequalizerssothat
thefrontbumperheightiswithin     ”(13mm)ofthereferencepoint.

Afterproperadjustment,therearbumpershouldbenohigherthanin
Step2.
Note:Adjustinganequalizinghitchsotherearbumperofthevehicleis
higherthanitwasunloadedwilldefeatthefunctionoftheload
equalizinghitchandmaycauseunpredictablehandling.
Safety chains
Alwaysconnectthetrailer’ssafetychainstotheframeorhookretainers
ofthevehiclehitch.Toconnectthetrailer’ssafetychains,crossthe
chainsunderthetrailertongueandallowslackforturningcorners.
Ifyouusearentaltrailer,followtheinstructionsthattherentalagency
givestoyou.
Donotattachsafetychainstothebumper.
Trailer brakes
Electricbrakesandmanual,automaticorsurge-typetrailerbrakesare
safeifinstalledproperlyandadjustedtothemanufacturer’s
specifications.ThetrailerbrakesmustmeetlocalandFederal
regulations.
