normaldrivingpositionforthis
automaticoverdrivetransaxle.When
yourvehiclecruisesataconstant
speedforanylengthoftime,this
fourthgearwillincreaseyourfuel
economy.

Overdrivemaynotbeappropriate
forcertainterrains.Ifthetransaxle
shiftsbackandforthbetweenthird
andfourthgearswhileyouare
OFF/ON
drivinghillyroadsorifyourvehicle
requiresadditionalpowerforclimbinghills,presstheO/DOFFswitch.
Eachtimethevehicleisstarted,thetransaxlewillautomaticallyreturn
tonormaloverdrivemode.
IftheO/DOFFindicatorlightisflashingonandoffrepeatedly
whenthevehicleisstartedordoesnotcomeonwhentheO/D
OFFcontrolispressed,theremaybeatransaxleelectronic
systemmalfunction.YoushouldcontactyourauthorizedMazda
dealerassoonaspossibleordamagetothetransaxlecouldoccur.
When to use D (Drive) or press the O/D OFF switch
Youwillnoticethatthereisonlyone

drivepositiononyourgearshift
indicator(insteadofDriveand
ODO
Overdrive).However,youwillfinda
controllabeledOVERDRIVElocated
onthegearshiftlever.Pushinthe
switchandtheO/DOFFlightinthe
instrumentclusterwillilluminate.
WiththeO/DOFFlightilluminated,
OFF/ON
thetransaxlewilloperateinfirst,
secondandthirdgearsandwillnot
shiftintofourthgear.OperatinginD(O/DOFF)providesmoreengine
brakingthanOverdrivefordescendinghillsorcitydriving.
ToreturnthetransaxletothenormalOverdriveoperation,presstheO/D
OFFcontrolagain.UsethiscontroltoselectbetweenOverdriveorD
(O/DOFF)wheneveryoudriveyourvehicle.
