Utilityvehiclesandtruckshavelargertiresandincreasedground
clearance,givingthevehicleahighercenterofgravitythanapassenger
car.
WARNING:Vehicleswithahighercenterofgravitysuchas
utilityvehiclesandtruckshandledifferentlythanvehicleswitha
lowercenterofgravity.Utilityvehiclesandtrucksarenotdesignedfor
corneringatspeedsashighaspassengercarsanymorethanlow-slung
sportscarsaredesignedtoperformsatisfactorilyunderoff-road
conditions.Avoidsharpturns,excessivespeedorabruptmaneuversin
thesevehicles.Failuretodrivecautiouslycouldresultinanincreased
riskoflossofvehiclecontrol,vehiclerollover,personalinjuryand
death.
WARNING:Loadedvehicles,withahighercenterofgravity,
mayhandledifferentlythanunloadedvehicles.Donotoverload
yourvehicleanduseextraprecautions,suchasdrivingatslower
speeds,avoidingabruptsteeringchangesandallowingforincreased
stoppingdistance,whendrivingaheavilyloadedvehicle.Over-loading
orloadingthevehicleimproperlycandeterioratehandlingcapability
andcontributetolossofvehiclecontrolandvehiclerollover.
Vehicle stability and handling
Theriskofarollovercrashincreasesasthenumberofpeopleandload
inthevehicleincrease.Thisincreasedriskoccursbecausethepassenger
weightandloadraisesthevehicle’scenterofgravityandcausesitto
shiftrearward.Asaresult,thevanhaslessresistancetorolloverand
handlesdifferentlyfromothercommonlydrivenpassengervehicles,
makingitmoredifficulttocontrolinanemergencysituation.Placingany
loadontheroofalsoraisesthecenterofgravityandincreasesthe
potentialforrollover.
