Front passenger sensing system
Thefrontpassengersensingsystemisdesignedtomeettheregulatory
requirementsofFederalMotorVehicleSafetyStandard(FMVSS)208
andisdesignedtodisable(willnotinflate)thefrontpassenger’sfrontal
airbagundercertainconditions.
Thefrontpassengersensingsystemworkswithsensorsthatarepartof
thefrontpassenger’sseatandsafetybelt.Thesensorsaredesignedto
detectthepresenceofaproperlyseatedoccupantanddetermineifthe
frontpassenger’sfrontalairbagshouldbeenabled(mayinflate)or
disabled(willnotinflate).
Thefrontpassengersensingsystemwilldisable(willnotinflate)the
frontpassenger’sfrontalairbagif:

thefrontpassengerseatisunoccupied,orhassmall/mediumobjectsin
thefrontseat,
thesystemdeterminesthataninfantispresentinarear-facinginfant
seatthatisinstalledaccordingtothemanufacturer’sinstructions,
thesystemdeterminesthatasmallchildispresentinaforward-facing
childrestraintthatisinstalledaccordingtothemanufacturer’s
instructions,

thesystemdeterminesthatasmallchildispresentinaboosterseat,
afrontpassengertakeshis/herweightoffoftheseatforaperiodof
time,
•
achildorasmallpersonoccupiesthefrontpassengerseat.
Whenthepassengerairbagofflightisilluminated,thepassengerside
airbagmaybedisabledtoavoidtheriskofairbagdeploymentinjuries.
Thefrontpassengersensingsystem
usesaЉpassengerairbagoffЉor
ЉpassairbagoffЉindicatorwhichwill
illuminateandstaylittoremindyou
thatthefrontpassengerfrontalairbagisdisabled.Theindicatorlampis
locatedatthetopoftheinstrumentpanelcenterstackareaabovethe
radioandnexttothehazardwarningindicator.
Note:Theindicatorlampwillilluminateforashortperiodoftimewhen
theignitionisturnedtotheonpositiontoconfirmitisfunctional.
Whenthefrontpassengerseatisnotoccupied(emptyseat)orinthe
eventthatthefrontpassengerfrontalairbagisenabled(mayinflate),the
indicatorlampwillbeunlit.
