The fuel system may be under pressu re. If
the fuel cap is ven tin g vap or or if you
hear a hissin g sou nd, wait until it stop s
before completely rem ovin g the cap.
Otherw ise, fuel may spray out and injure
you or oth ers.

Make sure that you pump unlead ed fuel and
put the nozzle all the way insid e the fuel
filler pipe.
NOTE: To help red uce early nozzle shutoffs
and fuel spillage, park you r veh icle so
that the fuel filler door is not
downhill. Do not tilt or turn the nozzle
upsid e down when fillin g. Avoid
excessively fast fuel disp ensin g rates
(over 10 gallon s [38 liters] per minute).
NOTE: If you spill any fuel on the body of
you r veh icle, clean it off immediately.
The fuel may dull or soften the pain t
if you do not wash it off.

To rep lace the fuel cap , align the tabs on the
cap with the notches on the filler pipe. Turn
it clockw ise until it stop s.
4.
Pu sh the fuel door closed .
If the Service Engine Soon warning light com es
on and stays on when you start the engine, the
fuel cap may not be prop erly seated . Turn off
the engine, rem ove the fuel cap and rep lace it,
being carefu l to align the cap prop erly. For more

If you lose the fuel cap , rep lace it with an
au thorized Motorcraft or equ ivalent part.
