1996 Ford Taurus Owners Manual

Pu t the  chains   on  the  front   tires  tightly   with
the  end s  held  dow n  secu rely.  Retighten   the
chains  after   driving   1/ 2  mile  (1  km ). Follow
the  chain   manu factu rer’s  instru ctions.
Do  not  drive   faster  than   30  mph   (50  km / h)
or  the  chain   manu factu rer’s  recom mend ed
speed   limit,  whichever    is low er.  Avoid
bu mps,  holes  and   sharp   turns.   If you   can
hear  the   chains  ru b  or  bang  against   you r
vehicle,  rem ove  the   chains  to  prevent    dam age
to  you r  vehicle.
Tire  chains  may   affect  vehicle   hand ling.  Drive
carefu lly  and  avoid   hard   braking.
Do  not  use  chains   on  tem porary   spare   tires.
They  may   dam age  the  vehicle   and  the  tire.
Remove   tire  chains  at  the   first  opportu  nity
after  using   them   on  snow  and   ice.  Do  not  use
the  chains   on  dry  road s.
Clean ing  the  Wheels
Wash  the   wheels  with   the  sam e  detergent   you
use  to  wash   you r vehicle’s   bod y. Do  not   use
acid -based  wheel   cleaners,   steel  wool,  abrasives,
fuel,  or  strong   detergents.    These  substances   will
dam age  protective    coatings.  Use   tar  and  road   oil
rem over  to  rem ove  grease   and  tar.
NOTE:   Before  goin g  to  a car  wash , fin d  out  if
the  brushes   are  abrasive.
