knocks lightly. How ever, if it knocks heavily
und er most driving cond itions on the
recom mend ed octane rating fuel, see you r dealer
or a qu alified service technician to prevent any
engine dam age.
SHO 3.4L engine
The SHO 3.4L engine has been designed to
operate using prem ium unlead ed fuel with an
octane rating of 91 or higher. Regu lar unlead ed
fuel with an octane rating of 87 may be used if
necessary. For optim um perform ance and
driveability, it is recom mend ed that you use
prem ium unlead ed fuel.
In som e high altitu de areas, “p rem ium” fuels are
sold with octane ratings of less than 91. It is
recom mend ed that you use only those
“p rem ium” fuels with an octane rating of 91 or
higher.
Fuel qua lit y
Ford ap proves the use of gasolines, inclu ding
those reform ulated , that contain oxygenates such
as ethanol (10% maxim um) and MTBE (15%
maxim um). If methanol is used , the gasoline
shou ld contain no more than 5% with
cosolvents.
If you are exp eriencing starting, rou gh idle or
hesitation problem s, try a different brand of fuel.
If the cond ition persists, see you r dealer or a
qu alified service technician.
It shou ld not be necessary to ad d any
afterm arket prod ucts to you r fuel tank if you
continu e to use a high-qu ality fuel.
