SelectthehighestsuitablegearandREMAIN
inthatgearuntilafirmsurfaceisreached.It
isgenerallyadvisabletouseLOWrange
gears,asthesewillenableyoutoaccelerate
throughworseningconditionswithouttherisk
ofbeingunabletorestart.

Onveryroughtracks,engagetheLOWgear
rangetoenableasteady,lowspeedtobe
maintainedwithoutconstantuseofthebrake
pedal.
Stoppingthevehicleonsoftground,in
sandoronanincline
Ifyoudostopthevehicle,remember:
Startingonaninclineorinsoftgroundor
sandisalmostimpossible.Alwaysparkona
firm,levelarea,orwiththevehiclefacing
downhill.
Toavoidwheelspin,select’D’(or’4’ifin
LOWrange).InLOWrange,selectMANUAL
mode(see’Transmissions’forfurther
information).
Ifforwardmotionislost,avoidexcessiveuse
ofthethrottle;thiswillcausewheelspinand
tendtodigthevehicleintothesand.Clear
sandfromaroundthetyresandensurethat
thechassisandaxlesarenotbearingonthe
sandbeforeagainattemptingtomove.
Ifthewheelshavesunk,useanairbaglifting
deviceorhighliftjacktoraisethevehicle,and
thenbuildupsandunderthewheelssothat
thevehicleisagainonlevelground.Ifa
restartisnotpossible,placesandmatsor
laddersbeneaththewheels.
