Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS)
POWER STEERING
The ABS gives increased vehicle stability and brake
performanceundermostbrakingconditions.Thesystem
automatically“pumps”thebrakesduringseverebraking
conditionstopreventwheellock-up.
Yourvehicleisequippedwithpowerassistedsteeringas
standardequipment.Thepowerassistedsteeringsystem
of your vehicle provides mechanical steering capability
intheeventpowerassistislost.
All vehicle wheels and tires must be the same size and
tires must be properly inflated to produce accurate
signalsfortheABScomputer.However,thesystemwill
compensatewhenthecompactspareisinuse.
Ifforsomereasonthehydraulicpressureisinterrupted,
itwillstillbepossibletosteeryourvehicle.Underthese
conditions you will observe a substantial increase in
steeringeffort.

During stops whereABS is activated, a vibration of the
brake pedal may be felt and associated system noises
maybeheard.
TRACTION CONTROL
The Traction Control System reduces wheel slip and
maintains traction at the driving (front) wheels. The
systemreduceswheelslipbyengagingthebrakeonthe
wheelthatislosingtractionwhilespinning.Thetraction
systemoperatesatspeedsbelow35mph(56km/h).
WARNING!
Pumpingofthebrakepedalwilldiminishtheeffec-
tiveness of Anti-lock brakes and may lead to an
accident. Pumping makes the stopping distance
longer.Justpressfirmlyonyourbrakepedalwhen
youneedtoslowdownorstop.
