Extraprecautions,suchasslowerspeedsandincreasedstopping
distance,shouldbetakenwhendrivingaheavilyloadedvehicle.
Yourvehiclecanhaulmorecargoandpeoplethanmostpassengercars.
Dependinguponthetypeandplacementoftheload,haulingcargoand
peoplemayraisethecenterofgravityofthevehicle.
TRAILER TOWING
YourvehiclemaytowaConventional/ClassIVtrailerorfifthwheeltrailer
providedthemaximumtrailerweightislessthanorequaltothe
maximumtrailerweightlistedforyourengineandrearaxleratioonthe
followingcharts.
Tocalculateyourmaximumtrailerweight:
forpickuptruckstakecurbweight,hitchhardware,andthedriver’s
weight,andsubstractthemfromtheGCWRlistedforyourvehiceinthe
followingchart/tablegivenitsseries,engine,transmissionanddriveaxle
ration.Thiscalculationwillgiveyouthemaximumtrailerweightpossible
foryourvehicle.
forchassiscabsandpickuptruckswithaftermarketequipment:
weighyourvehicleatacertifiedscaleandsubtractthisactualcurb
weight,hitchhardware,andthedriver’sweightfromtheGCWRlistedfor
yourvehicleinthefollowingchart/tablegivenitsseries,engine,
transmissionanddriveaxleratio.Thiscalculationwillgiveyouthe
maximumtrailerweightpossibleforyourvehicle.
Theweightofalladditionalcargo,passengersandpayloadmustbe
subtractedfromthemaximumtrailerweightcalculatedabove.
Furthertrailer/hitchrestrictionsandlimitationsexistdependingonthe
typeoftrailerandhitchused.Theseadditionalmaximumtrailerweight
andtongueloadlimitationsarelistedinthechart/tablethatfollowsthe
listingofGCWRs.
Towingatrailerplacesanadditionalloadonyourvehicle’sengine,
transmission,axle,brakes,tiresandsuspension.Inspectthese
