thepedalfromreleasingtooquickly,
placeyourleftfootontheparking
brakepedal,thenpulltherelease
lever,makingsurethepedalfully
releases.Youmaywanttopullthe
releaseleveragaintomakesurethe
parkingbrakeisfullreleased.
Alwayssettheparkingbrakefullyandmakesurethatthe
gearshiftissecurelylatchedinP(Park)(automatic
transmission)orin1(First)(manualtransmission).
Note:Ifyourvehicleisequippedwithamanualtransmission,theengine
mayberequiredtorunwhilepoweraccessoriesoperateandtheparking
brakeisset.Itisrecommendedthatwheelchocksbeusedduringthis
operation.
Ifyou’reparkingyourvehicleonagradeorwithatrailer,pressandhold
thebrakepedaldown,thensettheparkingbrake.Theremaybealittle
vehiclemovementastheparkingbrakesetstoholdthevehicle’sweight.
Thisisnormalandshouldbenoreasonforconcern.Ifneeded,pressand
holdtheservicebrakepedaldown,thentryreapplyingtheparking
brake.Chockthewheelsifrequired.Iftheparkingbrakecannotholdthe
weightofthevehicle,theparkingbrakemayneedtobeservicedorthe
vehiclemaybeoverloaded.

Neverholdthesteeringwheelatitsfurthestturningpoints(untilit
stops)formorethanafewsecondswhentheengineisrunning.
Donotoperatethevehiclewithalowpowersteeringpumpfluidlevel
(belowtheFULLCOLDmarkonthedipstick).
Ifthepowersteeringsystembreaksdown(oriftheengineisturned
off),youcansteerthevehiclemanually,butittakesmoreeffort.
