VEHICLE USED AS A STATIONARY POWER SOURCE
Auxiliaryequipmentcalledpowertake-off,orPTO,isoftenaddedtothe
engineortransmissiontooperateutilityequipment.Examplesincludea
wheel-liftfortowtrucks,toolsforconstructionandcranes.PTO
applicationsdrawauxiliaryhorsepowerfromthepowertrain,oftenwhile
thevehicleisstationary.Inthiscondition,thereislimitedcoolingair
flowthroughtheradiatorandaroundthevehiclethatnormallyoccurs
whenavehicleismoving.Dependingonthelevelanddurationof
auxiliaryhorsepowerdraw,vehicleconditionsandsurrounding
environmentalconditionsandotherfactors,thiscancontributeto
elevatedtransmissionfluidtemperaturesandresultinacceleratedfluid
deterioration,fuelvaporover-pressurization,andotherconcerns.Ford
trucksarefullyqualifiedforstationaryPTOoperationfor10minutesor
lessofcontinuousoperation.ForextendeddurationstationaryPTO
operation(beyond10minutes),adieselengineisrecommended,and
furtherconsultyouraftermarketPTOinstaller.
TransmissionPowerTake-Off(PTO)Provision(ifequipped)
Somevehicleswithanautomatictransmissionmaybeequippedwitha
“TransmissionPowerTake-OffProvision”,OptionCode62R.These
vehicleshaveaspecialtransmissionthatincludesaportontheleft-hand
sidetomountanaftermarketPTO,aninternalPTOgear,andcalibration
forPTOusage.TheactualPTOandrelatedequipmentisnotofferedby
FordMotorCompany,butisinstalledbyanaftermarketsource.ThePTO
gearinthetransmissionwilldrivetheaftermarketPTOwhiledrivingthe
vehicle.Therefore,someadditionalgearnoisethatmayresultisnormal.
Also,thetransmissionupshiftanddownshiftscheduleswillbereduced
byabout15%andmayresultinafirmershiftfeelduringPTOmobile
applications.

Ifdrivingthroughdeeporstandingwaterisunavoidable,proceedvery
slowlyespeciallywhenthedepthisnotknown.Neverdrivethrough
waterthatishigherthanthebottomofthehubs(fortrucks)orthe
